I have to say, I'm enjoying them more than I thought I would. Rowling weaves a pretty complex, but very iconic, story. It reminds me of a quote from Joseph Campbell that one of my literature professors used often:
"A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man."The quote is from The Hero With a Thousand Faces, a book I confess I did not finish. But it's probably going to have to go back on my TBR pile. Campbell's theory is that this iconic story is well-known to virtually all histories and cultures. So stories like Harry Potter, while new, strike a chord in all of us.
Update: Harry Potter and the massive print run
